Emilio Percan | Violin
Bowled over by the sound of his father’s violin, Emilio Percan started violin lessons at the age of seven in Skopje, Macedonia, and gave his debut recital at the age of 14. A masterclass with Professor Isabela Golovina (a former student of Leonid Kogan) made a big impression on Emilio, and he continued studying in Moscow with her in 1999. This was followed by a tutorship from Dora Ivanova (a former student of David Oistrakh) in Sofia in 2000.
He entered the Folkwang University in Essen in 2001, studying with Pieter Daniel. He was also taught and guided by Andreas Reiner, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Christian Rieger and Dirk Mommertz in chamber music and Stephan Schardt on the baroque violin. In June 2006 he became a member of the l’arte del mondo ensemble as a soloist and concertmaster under Werner Ehrhardt. He has worked with artists such as Daniel Hope, Simone Kermes, Ruth Ziesak, Michael Roll and Viktoria Mullova, performing a Vivaldi double concerto with Daniel Hope in November 2008. A year later the two violinists met again during a tour, on which Hope performed Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in the first half of the concert and Emilio Percan was the soloist in Ástor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons in the second. The critically acclaimed tour took in some of Germany’s biggest venues.
Engagements across Europe followed, with a variety of diverse orchestras and conductors. Emilio’s concert engagements and teaching activities (including masterclasses at the São Paulo Mozarteum) culminated in April 2011 with his debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, where he was asked to perform Beethoven’s concerto at short notice. The audience was thrilled and he was offered future engagements in South America.
