Il Giardino Armonico | Ensemble

Il Giardino Armonico, founded in Milan in 1985, brings together a number of graduates from some of Europe’s leading colleges of music, all of whom have specialised in playing on period instruments. The ensemble’s repertory is concentrated mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries. Depending on the demands of each programme, the group will consist of anything from three to thirty musicians.

The ensemble is regularly invited to the most important festivals all over the world and has performed in many concert halls, such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Oji Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Sydney Opera House and many more.

The ensemble’s many recordings of works by Vivaldi (including the Four Seasons) J.S. Bach (Brandenburg Concertos) and other 18th-century composers have met with widespread acclaim on the part of audiences and critics alike and have received several major awards (UK Gramophone Award, German Echo-Preis, Caecilia Award in Belgium, French Diapason d’Or, Choc de la Musique, Grand Prix des Discophiles etc). The acclaimed Vivaldi Album with Cecilia Bartoli won a Grammy Award in 2000.

Il Giardino Armonico plays regularly with many acclaimed soloists such as Cecilia Bartoli, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Sara Mingardo, Lynne Dawson, Bernarda Fink, Christoph Prégardien, Magdalena Kožená, Christophe Coin, Viktoria Mullova and Giuliano Carmignola both in concerts and in operatic productions such as Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Handel’s Agrippina, Il Trionfo del Tempo del Disinganno, Aci Galatea e Polifemo, La Resurrezione and Pergolesi’s La serva padrona.
