Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski has established himself as one of the most exciting pianists performing today. Working regularly with a list of conductors that includes Zinman, Andrew Davis, Maazel, Jurowski, Tortelier, Pappano, Ashkenazy, Dutoit, Alsop, Dudamel, Petrenko and Noseda, he performs regularly with the world’s most significant orchestras, including the London Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, DSO Berlin, Bolshoi, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, NDR Hamburg, Strasbourg Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Royal Flanders Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Sydney and Melbourne symphony orchestras and on tour with the New Zealand Symphony. In North America, he performs regularly with many of the major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and the orchestras of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Toronto, to name but a few. Additional orchestral appearances include the Blossom Music Festival, Chorégies d’Orange, PROMS and many others.

A superb recitalist, Simon Trpčeski has given solo concerts in Amsterdam (on the main stage of the Concertgebouw), Atlanta, Bilbao, Lisbon, Hamburg, London, Milan, Munich, New York, Paris, Prague, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Toronto and Vancouver. Simon also performs chamber music as often as he can, having attended festivals such as Aspen, Verbier and Risor, and working regularly with young musicians in Macedonia, with a special support of KulturOp – Culture and Arts Organization.

He has received much praise for his EMI recital recordings; the first, featuring works by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Stravinsky and Prokofiev, received both the Editor’s Choice and Debut Album Awards at the Gramophone Awards. Subsequent discs of Rachmaninov and Chopin were equally well received, and in 2008 he released an all- Debussy disc to widespread critical acclaim.

Born in the Republic of Macedonia in 1979, Simon Trpčeski has won prizes in international piano competitions in the UK, Czech Republic and Italy, and was awarded the ‘Young Artist Award’ by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2003. A 2002 graduate from the Faculty of Music of the University of St. Cyril and St. Methodius in Skopje, where he studied with Professor Boris Romanov, Simon currently teaches as a faculty member at his alma mater. In 2009 Simon received the Presidential Merit of Honor of the Republic of Macedonia.

This CD’s companion disc, Rachmaninov Piano Concertos 2 & 3, also with Simon Trpčeski, Vasily Petrenko and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, was released in March of 2010 on AVIE/RLPO (AV2192) to worldwide acclaim. It won the coveted Diapason d’or de l’année in France in November 2010.
